"After days staring and listening, I began to notice the significant difference in the perception of paintings and photographs. Though photographs are 'real' happenings, paintings always mystify beyond knowing. Why is it that people in museums and galleries spend much more time in front of a painting than a photograph. Photography is usually perceived as "what you see is what you get" I guess. It slowly became a bit of an obsession to break the boundaries of what is actual and what is seen & felt. I began experimenting with elements of painting trying to obscure that fine line between tactile art and film. With mordancaging, reticulating, scratching, etching, bleaching, and burning, torturing my hands into threads.... I feel like I have gotten somewhat closer. It is probably an endless attempt to reintroduce the human presence in the creation of an image, but it feels good. The decisive moment. The texture of flesh. A nice mix." view >>
